My Chinese Brother-in-Law, an F1 Race, a €5 Cable, and Why I’m Never Going Back to Ziggo
My Chinese Brother-in-Law, an F1 Race, a €5 Cable, and Why I’m Never Going Back to Ziggo
I have a confession to make. For years, I was a complete fool. A paying fool. Every month, €80.50 faithfully left my account for Ziggo. Sometimes it went to KPN when I thought the grass was greener there. Spoiler: it wasn’t.
And I thought it was normal. “Yes,” I would say to friends, “television just costs money.” As if I were talking about taxes. As if there were no alternative.
Until that one summer. That barbecue. And my Chinese brother-in-law.
The Barbecue That Shattered My World
It was a scorching day in July. The neighbors were on vacation, the dog was panting in the shade, and my brother-in-law – let’s call him Li – was happily grilling sausages while I cracked open a beer.
Li is that kind of guy. Always cheerful, always helpful, with an endless supply of knowledge about things you didn’t know you needed. At the previous barbecue, he taught me how to fry an egg perfectly (add water and cover it). The barbecue before that, he told me about some Chinese stew that needed to simmer for twelve hours.
That day was different. That day he talked about television.
“You pay for Ziggo?” he asked while turning a sausage.
“Yes, why?”
He chuckled. “I pay €15 a month. And I have everything. All sports, all movies, all channels.”
I thought he was joking. “Yeah, right,” I said, “probably one of those illegal streams that gets shut down after a week.”
Li gave me that look. You know the look – the “you don’t get it but I don’t feel like explaining” look. Then he took out his phone, opened an app, and within ten seconds, the Formula 1 qualifying was on his screen. Crystal clear. Live. No buffering. Nothing.
“Max is on pole,” he said.
I stared at the screen. “How?”
IPTV,” he said. “And not the junk. Just a good provider.”
That night I couldn’t sleep. I lay there staring at the ceiling, my mind racing: €15? Everything? How is that possible? Why am I paying €80? Why is all of the Netherlands paying €80?
I felt cheated. Not by Li, but by myself. Because I never asked for an alternative.
Red Flags, Shady Websites, and a Lot of Hassle
Of course, it’s not that easy. I sat down at my laptop at home and typed “IPTV Netherlands” into Google. What I found was a maze of shady websites, fake lists, and terms I didn’t understand. M3U? Xtream Codes? EPG? It seemed like a foreign language.
And the providers… Guys, what a mess.
One promised “10,000 channels in 4K” for €5 a month. Another had a website that looked like it was designed in 2003. Yet another only accepted payment via cryptocurrency – and sorry, but if I’m paying with something called “Tether,” I don’t feel safe.
I tried a few. One worked well the first day, but after a week the stream was gone. Stopped. Disappeared. Customer service? Didn’t exist. Another had an app that kept crashing on my Samsung TV. Yet another had a program guide entirely in Hungarian – and I don’t speak Hungarian, though it sounds nice.
I started to think: maybe Li was right that it could be ‘junk.’
Until one evening, after three weeks of frustration, I stumbled upon Pro-IPTV. And that was different.
How I Found Pro-IPTV (and Why I Stayed)
What stood out to me? They simply had a WhatsApp number on the site. No complicated contact form, no chatbot running you in circles. Just “WhatsApp us.”
I sent a message: “Hello, I have a Samsung TV from 2019. What should I install?”
Within twenty minutes, I got a reply. In Dutch. From a human. “SmartOne,” the guy said. It’s in the Samsung Smart Hub. Install it, open it, and send us your MAC address. We’ll take care of the rest.”
I thought: this is too good to be true. There must be a catch.
So I installed the app. Opened it. Saw a MAC address at the bottom of the screen – something like 00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E. Sent that address over. And then nothing happened…
Nothing. Just nothing.
I restarted the app. And suddenly all the channels were there. All of them. NPO, RTL, SBS, ESPN, Ziggo Sport, BBC, CNN, Discovery – everything. And the program guide worked. And the picture was crystal clear.
I sat on the couch, remote in hand, feeling like an idiot. An idiot who had overpaid for years.
The Baptism of Fire: Formula 1 in Prime Time
I’m a big Formula 1 fan. Since the days of Jos Verstappen, when you were lucky to see half a race before the car broke down. Now with Max, it’s a real celebration, but Ziggo Sport Plus kept costing me more and more. First a tenner, then fifteen, then twenty. And then you had Viaplay for the races Ziggo didn’t have.
You pay through the nose.
So the Sunday after my installation, there was a Grand Prix. And not just any – one in the evening, right during peak hours. Half of the Netherlands was on the couch.
I turned on the stream. Held my breath.
And nothing happened… No buffering. No stuttering. No reverting to grainy images. Just a crystal-clear Grand Prix, from start to finish.
My wife looked at me strangely. “Why are you staring at the screen like that?”
“It just works,” I said.
“Yes, that’s the point.”
“No, you don’t get it. It just works. Without stuttering. While half of the Netherlands is watching sports.”
She shrugged and picked up her phone. She didn’t get it. But that evening, I watched Max’s victory with a smile on my face. And I thought: this is it. This is the right one.
The Cable (Yes, That Boring Cable)
Okay, I have to confess something else. The first week, I occasionally had some buffering. Not much, but just enough to be annoying. Around eight in the evening, when the neighbors started streaming, the picture would stutter for a few seconds.
I thought: “See, too good to be true.”
So I sent another WhatsApp to Pro-IPTV. “It’s buffering in the evenings. Is it on your end?”
The answer was honest: “Check if you’re on Wi-Fi.”
Yes, I was on Wi-Fi. Always had been.
“Try an ethernet cable,” they said. “Costs a few euros. You’ll be amazed.”
So I went to the store, bought a cable for less than €5, and ran it along the baseboard to the TV. It was ugly. It didn’t look nice. But my god, what a difference.
No more buffering. Never again. Not even during peak hours. Not even during a sale at Bol.com. Just always stable.
So for all the people complaining about buffering: try laying a cable first. Seriously. You’ll save yourself so much frustration.
My Brother-in-Law Was Convinced (Yes, Really)
You’d think that Li, the man who told me about IPTV, already had a good provider. And he did. Only his cheap provider wasn’t always stable. And the customer service? Didn’t exist.
“If there’s an issue,” he said, “I just have to hope it resolves itself.”
He sounded a bit disheartened. So I said: “Try Pro-IPTV. Free trial. Nothing to lose.”
So he tried it. First skeptical, as always. Then surprised. Then convinced.
“It’s faster,” he said. “And that Dutch WhatsApp support is ideal. My other provider only had some ticket system where you had to wait three days for a response.”
Now Li also watches via Pro-IPTV. And I’m still right – though he’ll never admit it.
Why I’m Never Going Back to Ziggo (or KPN, or Anyone Else)
Look, I get it. People are wary of IPTV. They think of those shady websites with Russian subtitles. Or of buffering. Or of hassle with installations.
But the reality is: if you do it right, IPTV is just better. You pay less, you get more, and you don’t have to deal with year-long contracts.
What I’ve learned:
- A free trial is sacred. No trial? Move on. Why wouldn’t someone offer a test if they have confidence in their service?
- Dutch WhatsApp support is invaluable. No chatbots or ticket systems. Just a person who thinks along with you.
- Use a cable. Really. Buy that €5 thing. You don’t need 1 Gbit/s fiber, you just need a stable connection.
- Apps like SmartOne make life simple. No M3U links, no complicated settings. Just send a MAC address and you’re done.
And yes, I’ve become a fan of Pro-IPTV. Not because I work here – I do now, I admit – but because I truly found it worked. And I thought others should know too.
And Now? An Offer.
Maybe you’re sitting on the couch now too. With a Ziggo or KPN subscription that you find too expensive. Or with a cheap IPTV provider that keeps buffering. Or with nothing at all, because you find it all too complicated.
Here’s what I recommend: send us a WhatsApp. Request a free trial. Install SmartOne on your TV – takes a minute – send us your MAC address, and watch for a few days. Test it during peak hours. Test it during an F1 race. Test it during the news.
And if you like it? Then you pay. It’s that simple.
And if you don’t like it? Then you’ve lost nothing. Not a cent. Just fifteen minutes of your time.
What do you have to lose? Except for your expensive Ziggo subscription.
Pro-IPTV – REALLY 100% service. We go where others stop. 💪
Ps. My brother-in-law still says he could have thought of it himself. But he now watches through us. And he still pays less than before. So I count it as a win.
Pps. That cable is still along the baseboard. My wife thinks it’s ugly. I think it’s beautiful. That’s how we settled it.
