Setting up IPTV Smarters with Xtream Codes or M3U: this is how it works
After installing IPTV Smarters comes the most important screen: you have to add a playlist. That can usually be done with Xtream Codes API or with a M3U link. Many failed logins are not caused by the app, but because one character in the data has been entered incorrectly.
Below I explain both methods, including EPG, error messages and the data you must request from your provider.
What do you need?

You need an active IPTV service with one of these details:
- Xtream Codes: username, password and server URL;
- M3U: one full playlist URL;
- possibly a separate EPG URL for the program guide.
The app itself does not contain any channels. Therefore, do not download a “Smarters login” from any website. You use the data of the provider you have chosen yourself.
Set up Xtream Codes API
- Open IPTV Smarters and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Enter a recognizable name for playlist name, for example “Living room”.
- Enter the username.
- Enter the password.
- Paste the server URL into the URL field.
- Click AddUser or Login.
The server URL can end with a port number, such as :8080. Leave that part if your provider sent it. Do not add “www” yourself and do not change http to https without knowing that this is correct.
Set up M3U
- Choose Load Your Playlist or File/URL.
- Select the option for a playlist via URL.
- Give the playlist a name.
- Paste the full M3U link.
- Click add and wait for the categories to load.
An M3U link is often very long and may contain username and password information. Therefore, do not share that link publicly in a forum or screenshot.
Xtream Codes or M3U: which one do you choose?
| XtreamCodes | M3U | |
|---|---|---|
| Import | 3 fields | 1 long URL |
| EPG | Usually automatically | Sometimes a separate EPG link is required |
| Error prone | Easier to control | Link can be broken quickly |
| Advice | Best choice for most beginners | Useful if your provider only offers M3U |
On the main manual of IPTV Smarters It also describes where you can find these fields per device.
Set and refresh EPG
EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide: the program guide. With Xtream Codes this is usually included as soon as the login is successful. With M3U, your provider can provide a separate EPG URL.
- Open the Smarters settings.
- Go to EPG or TV Guide.
- Choose Refresh EPG or the equivalent option.
- Wait for the guide to fully load.
An empty EPG does not automatically mean that the channels do not work. Check live TV first and then ask if a separate EPG link is needed.
Login failed: check these points
- Is there a space before or after your username?
- Is the password case sensitive?
- Have you chosen the correct server URL for this playlist?
- Is the account active and not expired?
- Has the maximum number of devices been reached?
- Are you using the full M3U link?
Delete the old playlist and add the data again if you can’t see which field is wrong. If the error persists on multiple devices, ask your provider to check the status.
Playlist is empty
An empty playlist is often caused by an incorrect server address, an incomplete link or an account that has not yet been activated. Reload the playlist and check that the date and time are correct on your device. If the playlist works on another device, the problem is probably in the app version or device setting.
Handle your login safely
- Do not include your password in a public review or screenshot.
- Do not use an unknown “Smarters generator” or free login.
- Save your M3U link in a safe note.
- Only use the data that your provider allows for each device.
